National Recognition for The Miracle Foundation Palliative Care Center

Designated a Palliative Care Leadership CenterTM (PCLC) by the Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC).

The Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) recently announced the creation of four new Palliative Care Leadership Centers including The Miracle Foundation Palliative Care Center, whose work is part of the award granted to Northwell Health

Palliative Care Leadership CentersTM (PCLC) is a national initiative of the Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC).

The Palliative Care Leadership Centers national Initiative has two objectives: to increase the number of quality palliative care programs across the United States and to foster growth and sustainability through leadership development and techincal assistance.

Operational Training, Support and Full Year of Mentoring 

Palliative Care Leadership Centers conduct a two-day, in-person training followed by a year of mentoring. As a member of the Northwell Health Leadership Center, The Miracle Foundation Palliative Care Center will provide intensive operational training and yearlong mentoring to clinicians from around the country who wish to develop a community based palliaitve care program. Teams of hospitals and hospice health care professionals including physicians, nurses, social workers, administrators and financial managers who attend a two day training period. Participants will have the opportunity to observe and learn how the Miracle Foundation Palliative Care Center delivers palliative care in the community. The focus is on the operational aspects of palliative care development and sustainability rather than on clinical training. 

The four new national Palliative Care Leadership Centers will focus on palliative care in community settings, such as at home, in long term care facilities or in a physicians office. The Miracle Foundation Palliative Care Center, through its pilot programs with cancer, COPD and congestive heart failure patients, has been in the forefront of providing care to patients in their home.

The Northwell Health Leadership team includes the MIracle Foundation Pallative Care Center, Hospice Care Network, the Northwell Division of Geriatrics and Pallative Care and the House Calls Program.

The Miracle Foundation Palliative Care Center is an initiative of the Garden City based Miracle Foundation, which was founded in 2000 by Patricia Tenaglia and the late Michael J. Tenaglia. In partnership with the Hospice Care Network, the Miracle Foundation Palliative Care Center provides comprehensive, supportive care to the patient, the caregiver and family members through home-based palliative care visits. The goal is to help patients live the most productive and best possible quality of life at perhaps the most difficult time of their illness.
